Although I previewed the song samples for this album, and was pleased, after getting it and listening to all the songs in their entirety, I found myself listening to it over and over.

A cd I should have had a long time ago! This band takes sounds and styles and blends them to a unique, soothing mix. I listen to this when I want to relax with something very creative as opposed to just quiet music. One person found this helpful. Although the NYC quartet don't exactly bring anything new to the table, they've crafted a record that's an enjoyable blend of dance and chillout with an elegant flair.

Much of that elegance is thanks to lead singer Liset Alea, a Cuban born chanteuse who could be a dead ringer for Corinne Bailey Rae in her upper register and Esthero in her lower.

She doesn't really belt or showboat, but she's certainly no emotionless ice queen either, flitting to and fro like a calmer, less nasally Nelly Furtado to keep things interesting when need be. Purest One kicks things off with a heavy helping of drum'n'bass and wistful strings as Liset cynically croons about trying "to cleanse my soul with every sun", but she keeps falling deeper into the same sin so she'll just "close my eyes and play along" instead.

The theme of giving in to temptation continues with Diablo, a trip-hop-flavored jam which takes a more clever look at the age old "angel on one shoulder and devil on the other" plot device. The mischevious entity that "gets heavier as I get older" encourages giving in by admitting that "your life won't be longer, but it sure will be fun!

Portrait recalls the moodier sounds of Portishead without being too dark while frantic drum'n'bass rhythms juxtapose light piano strokes and torchy vocals on Danger, discussing taking the leap into new love that could or couldn't end with a broken heart. Summer Rain's celebratory house grooves bring images of carefree days on the beach I could totally hear Samantha James singing something like it and Endless possesses mainstream pop appeal without being generic the last minute or so flips into a funky, Roy Ayers inspired acid beat.

Let It Go is one of the more organic tracks, imploying light keys and giving Liset's sweetly bruised vocals the spotlight. Forgotten Love, another song about giving love another shot, follows in a similar pattern, giving the music a more languid approach with hazy, liquid bass and muted jazzy trumpet. The only gripe I have about the set is that some songs don't stand out as much as others and tend to fade into the background, but none of them are bad.
